You are welcome to bring companion parrot(s) to the show with you. However, we have a number of rules in place to keep both people and birds safe. Please note that poultry and waterfowl are not permitted at the show.
THERE WILL BE NO BUYING OR SELLING OF ANY BIRDS AT THE SHOW
You may already be aware of the new ‘Kept Bird Register’. From October 2024 there is a requirement for anyone that keeps birds outside, or takes birds outside, to register with the Animal & Plant Health Agency (APHA). Previously, only people with 50 or more poultry were required to register their birds.
There are exemptions for parrots and other cage birds kept indoors, but if you are planning to bring your bird out of the house for anything other than a veterinary appointment, then you must register. Examples of taking your bird outside which require registration would be to fly them outdoors, to go to a bird show with them, to buy or sell at a bird sales event or to attend a meet up with other birds.
Registration is free and can be done online or by downloading a paper form. The full guidelines and instructions for registration are available at
The Tropical Bird Show will be registered as a bird gathering with APHA.
You are welcome to bring your bird(s) if they are registered with APHA. We are legally required to check your registration by asking you to provide your CPH number, which will have been issued to you by APHA.
If you have already registered and do not have a record of your CPH number or have not yet received confirmation of your registration, then you will need to telephone APHA on 03000 200 301. To get to the right department, choose Option 3 (Other), then Option 2 (APHA), then Option 4 (CPH & Kept Bird Register) and finally Option 3 (Kept Bird Register).
You can download the Tropical Bird Show - Bird Registration Form to print and bring with you, saving time on the day.
Please do not bring your bird without a CPH number as you will not be permitted to enter the show hall with them. There are no facilities to leave unregistered birds.
